Huron Regional Medical Center provides state-of-the-art health care with a caring, compassionate touch to residents in Huron and seven surrounding counties in the region. Our knowledgeable employees and medical staff deliver care with the ultimate goal of improving the wellbeing of each individual through quality health care and unparalleled, world-class experience.

Originally built in 1947, St. John’s Medical Center which was owned and managed by the Franciscan Sisters was the beginning of Huron Regional Medical Center.

1978: St. John’s Medical Center was purchased by a broad-based, not for profit community corporation, Huron Regional Medical Center Inc. The new entity, HRMC, is governed by a board of directors. The volunteer board consists of three medical staff representatives, one liaison for the City of Huron and one liaison for the Beadle County Commission. Other board members are elected at large.

1983: Huron Regional Medical Center expands from the main building east with a single story which includes the emergency room, surgery and intensive care.

1995: Huron Regional Medical Center expands north from the addition which includes rehabilitation services, business office, admitting and adds a second and third floor to include the main patient, OB and intensive care units.

2003: Huron Regional Medical Center expands the size of the emergency room and outpatient treatment services and imaging center. This expansion includes a new stationary MRI.

2008: Huron Regional Medical Center expands the third floor of the hospital to include 10 maternity suites.

2014: Huron Regional Medical Center opens the HRMC Physicians Clinic, which can house up to 10 physicians. This modern, state-of-the-art facility provides convenient parking, easy access, on-site X-Ray and laboratory and providers who can care for your whole family. Specialties include adult/internal medicine, family and pediatric care, orthopedics, general surgery and urology. More information is available at www.hrmcphysiciansclinic.org.

2017: Huron Regional Medical Center purchases the Women's Wellness Center, an obstetric and gynecology clinic founded by Dr. Sara Castellanos in 2011. Dr. Castellanos board-certifed obstetrcian and gynecologist, care for women of all ages through all stages of womanhood.

2021: Huron Regional Medical Center purchases ProPT, merging with the current hospital rehab department and forming HRMC ProRehab. The former ProPT, which is referred to as the south location, features a HydroWorx Hydro Therapy pool, which allows therapists to use water in the treatment of different conditions, including arthritis and related rheumatic complaints. A full team of physical therapists and physical therapy assistants provide a wide variety of therapies at the south location.

2021: Huron Regional Medical Center purchases Tschetter & Hohm Clinic, a full-service medical practice with both internal medicine physicians and mid-level providers that has been serving the Huron community since 1946. The Tschetter & Hohm Clinic providers and patients will remain in the current building until 2022 when the second story of the HRMC Physicians Clinic is complete.

2021: Huron Regional Medical Center's Imaging Center installs a new 3D mammography suite. With 3D mammograms you can see several different angles and recreate a three-dimensional image, which helps detect small changes and can find cancer in more treatable stages in addition to improving patient outcomes. Also in 2021 a state-of-the-art MRI, the Philips Ingenia Ambition 1.5T, is also installed in the imaging department. This is a helium-free machine providing superb images, up to 50% faster exams and a larger opening and in-bore entertainment improving patient comfort.

2022: The HRMC Physicians Clinic's second story is complete, adding twice the room with an additional 23,000 square feet for additional providers as well as Women's Wellness Center Ob/Gyn Clinic and Tschetter & Hohm Clinic providers and patients to merge.

2022: The HRMC emergency room and outpatient treatment areas also expanded with two new exam rooms added to the ER along with updating the negative pressure suite and adding a room specifically designed for patients experiencing psychological symptoms/issues. Three private outpatient treatment suites were also added where patients can receive chemotherapy, IV antibiotics, blood products/fluids, infusion treatments and other therapies.

Currently, HRMC is designated as a 25-bed critical access hospital by the federal government. As a nonprofit, private corporation, profits are reinvested directly into the hospital for such items as new or updated equipment and expanded programs. This allows the medical center to grow and advance, providing modern service to the region.
