Larsen Named Chief Medical Officer for HRMC

Terry Larsen, DO, general surgeon at Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) and the HRMC Physicians Clinic, has been named Chief Medical Officer (CMO), according to Erick Larsen, president and CEO.

“As CMO, Dr. Larsen will serve as a key liaison between medical staff and administration, providing leadership in clinical practice improvement and medical staff development,” remarked Larsen. “He has demonstrated a deep dedication to rural health and advancing the well-being of his patients and peers and I’m excited to welcome him into this new role.”
Larsen fills the position previously occupied by Cy Haatvedt, MD, prior to his retirement. Larsen will work closely with HRMC’s medical staff, hospital leadership and care teams to ensure high-quality patient care, support clinical excellence and help lead strategic initiatives to advance the hospital’s mission of improving the wellbeing of individuals in the region.
Dr. Larsen will continue his general surgery practice, which includes open and laparoscopic surgical procedures, including colorectal, endocrine, esophageal, breast and skin, abdominal and trauma surgeries as well as upper and lower gastrointestinal procedures including endoscopy and colonoscopy.
Dr. Larsen holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Biochemistry and Medical Technology and began his career as a medical lab technologist, working in a hospital setting. He returned to medical school and earned his Doctor of Osteopathy at the University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, Missouri in 2004. He completed post-graduate training at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts in 2006 and completed his residency in general surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2010.
Dr. Larsen previously lived in Lyndonville, Vermont, where he provided rural general surgery care for over 13 years. He is originally from Sioux City, Iowa and has family in the area. In his free time, Dr. Larsen enjoys spending time with his significant other and his dogs and has an affinity for board games, cooking and assembling models. He is also a history buff with an enjoyment of maps and trivia.
