Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) environmental services staff and leadership created a fun way for hospital and clinic staff to recognize their gratefulness this season with a thankful turkey project.
The team of housekeepers, laundry technicians and floor technicians, along with director of environmental services, Lori Gross, created multi-colored feathers and a bare turkey and asked employees to take a moment to write what they are thankful for on a feather and return it. Housekeeping staff members distributed the feathers to departments on their cleaning routes and encouraged staff to participate.
“It was fun to talk to staff to find out what is important to them and what they might include on their feather,” explained Barb Reilly, housekeeper. “The project turned out better than we could have imagined.”
Bright colors, artwork and a display of thankfulness now fill the space in the hallway on the third floor of the HRMC Central Towers building where the bare turkey began. While family and friends are a common theme, other items thankful staff included on the feathers are pets, jobs, co-workers, health, community, church and more.
Lori Gross, director of environmental services expressed her awe at the participation and excitement for the project, “This is an amazing example of how the employees at HRMC focus on working together, no matter what project is at hand.” She and her team at HRMC are looking forward to the next opportunity for a similar project.
